I was talking with @RyanCampbell this morning, and it looks like Google Analytics is requiring everyone to migrate to Google Analytics 4 by July 1st. We were hoping to get some instruction from our SEM team or clients that have already made the move.
@JayPhee I’m still reviewing this and making sure I’ve completed all the steps. I’d be curious if/how our old GA data can be pulled into the new GA4. Hoping someone has maybe completed the process already and has some good insights.
Google has provided a great migration guide for beginners. It’s a step-by-step tutorial on getting from Universal Analytics to GA4 with a short video on how to get started.
There is also this great playlist with video tutorials on how to complete all aspects of the migration.
The sooner you complete the migration to GA4, the sooner you can start collecting data using the new data collection model. However, if you don’t wish to do this manually, Google will create a GA4 property based on your current UA settings unless you opt out in the Setup Assistant.
@RyanCampbell Unfortunately the old data cannot be imported into GA4 because GA4 uses a different data collection model from UA. Do make sure you export your old data before migrating to GA4 if you want access to it.
@KentRedding Our PPC specialists cannot help with the migration, however, it looks like you just started a new project with our Agency team. I’d be happy to have an SEO specialist assigned to the project assist you with the migration!
Confirming Google will allow access to your data for at least 6 months (but no guarantees after that) so be sure to download as Emma said
" * After July 1, 2023, you’ll be able to access your previously processed data in your Universal Analytics property for at least six months. We know your data is important to you, and we strongly encourage you to export your historical reports during this time."
But while historical data is important in some contexts (and great to look at from a reviewing the past perspective) having 6+ months of “current” data in GA4 is more than enough (SEO changes so much that anything past 12 months is no longer relevant or comparable anyways.
Sure there is! Since the agency is labor based, you can literally ask them to do anything they are capable of doing.
BUT
While I appreciate the business, to be honest, this is not a REW technology (or REW specific task) it doesn’t require an REW specialist. As such, you can likely find someone to help you with this much cheaper (with as much experience in this “specific” task) at Fiverr or something.
This guy is much cheaper - but of course, I have not used any of these people so I’m not recommending anyone specifically - just looking at price ranges out there.
