We recently talked about the benefits of WebP images and how to export them, but what do you do if you have a TON of photos to convert? We just got back from a Luxury event in Key Largo and believe me, this trick came in handy.
Photoshop has a million ways to do everything. So keep in mind that this is my approach and there may be others that work just as well. Here’s what you do:
-
Open all of your vertical photos in Photoshop (I’ll explain why we’re doing them separate later).
-
Go to Window > Actions.
-
Click ‘new action’ (plus sign). Name it, assign it a shortcut (I like shift + f1) and I also color code it to make it easy to find.
- Hit the ‘begin record’ button.
-
Start your process with the first image. You’re not timed and there’s no rush.
-
Resize your image by going to Image > Size. I like to resize to 1200px high. This is why we’re doing horizontal and vertical separately. Horizontal photos you would do 1200px wide.
-
Go to file > save a copy > webp
-
You first one is done, now hit stop recording. Here’s the fun part…
-
Go to File > Automate > Batch. Select your saved action (under action), source should be opened files, specify your destination folder, override save as commands and click OK.
Sit back and watch magic happen!
I know that was a lot of steps so please let me know if you have any questions!
